Education

Lemole faculty are very active in graduate, undergraduate, and medical education. They are course directors in graduate and medical, dental and podiatry school courses. Also, they lecture on cardiovascular pathophysiology, organ metabolism, nephrology, immunopharmacology, signal transduction, regulation of cell volume, and other topics.

Students interested in doing research with our Center generally are pursuing a master’s or PhD in Biomedical Sciences or are students in the MD/PhD dual degree program

Interdisciplinary coursework includes:

  • Molecules to cells
  • Organ systems: function, dysfunction, and therapeutics
  • One concentration-specific elective
  • Five one-credit courses: Scientific Communications, Scientific Integrity and Bioethics, Experimental Design and Biostatistics, Bioinformatic Tools and Applications, and Scientific Grant Writing

In addition, PhD students complete three laboratory rotations and MS students with thesis directly begin laboratory research. In subsequent years, PhD students take additional advanced concentration-specific elective courses, participate in seminars and journal clubs, perform research in the laboratory of their choice, and write and defend a thesis. MS students also take additional advanced elective courses, participate in student seminars and journal clubs, and, if the thesis option is chosen, perform research leading to a thesis.
