At the Katz School of Medicine, research drives discoveries that can manage or cure diseases and increase quality of life. Our scientists investigate the fundamental biology behind complex diseases—cardiac disease, cancer, lung disease, nervous system degeneration, and addiction—and translate those findings into new approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and therapy.

At Katz, discovery moves seamlessly from bench to bedside. Our Basic Science Departments investigate the biology of health and disease, laying the groundwork for innovation. Research Centers focus that knowledge on high-impact areas—from cancer to neuroscience—driving breakthroughs through collaboration and advanced technology. In our Clinical Departments, discoveries are tested in patient-centered research, including more than 180 clinical trials each year, bringing new treatments and prevention strategies directly to the communities we serve.

Research Opportunities Across Temple

Partnerships with the College of Science and Technology, the College of Public Health, and the College of Engineering expand Katz’s research capacity in areas like medicinal chemistry, bioengineering, computational biology, and epidemiology. These collaborations also support programs such as Research Opportunities for Undergraduates, where students gain hands-on lab experience and mentoring in Katz labs.
