Advanced Core in Medical Sciences (ACMS) Postbaccalaureate Program

Prepare for success in medical school and as a practicing physician through the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (Katz) Advanced Core in Medical Sciences (ACMS) Postbaccalaureate Program.

This full-time, 10-month, non-degree program is designed for those who:

  • Have completed their foundational science (pre-med) coursework in their undergraduate program
  • Have a demonstrated passion for medicine and service
  • Seek to enrich their understanding of biomedical science.

Also, ACMS students learn in designed exclusive courses and work together as a team, as they will in their future medical careers.

The program is unique among other postbaccalaureate programs because every student accepted into the ACMS program also receives a conditional acceptance to the Katz MD program. Unlike other programs, there is no competition between students for limited medical school admission slots. Instead, all ACMS students who successfully complete the ACMS program requirements directly matriculate together as first-year medical students at Katz.

Program Format & Curriculum

ACMS students prepare for their medical career in graduate-level biomedical science courses taught by Temple’s renowned medical school faculty. These classes are taught solely to ACMS students.

The program is considered a career-enhancing postbac.

The program includes a formal in person MCAT preparation course for students who haven’t achieved the required MCAT score. Students have the opportunity to participate in shadowing experiences at Temple University Hospital and clinical activities in the William Maul Measy Institute for Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety.

Fall

  • Fundamentals of Physiology
  • Medical Pharmacology
  • Microbiology and Immunology
  • MCAT prep (if required)

Spring

  • Case-Based Clinical Problem Solving
  • Fundamentals of Biochemistry 
  • Human Anatomy
  • Special Topics in Medicine
  • MCAT prep (if required)
Tuition & Fees

Financial Aid

Federal loans are available for postbaccalaureate ACMS Program students. To apply, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov and include Temple University’s federal school code 003371. Students may be eligible for Stafford loans during the program per Federal Student Aid guidelines.

Please indicate the following on the FAFSA:

  • The postbaccalaureate program is considered a 5th year undergraduate year.
  • Parent information and signature is required for dependent students.
