The Fels Cancer Institute Research Program for Undergrads (Fels-BR-U Program)
This paid, year-round research-intensive program provides research and professional development activities for Temple undergraduate students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
T32 Training Program for Predoctoral Students
The T32 training program, funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), provides two years of support for training, research and travel to conferences for a total of 15 predoctoral students within the Cancer Biology and Genetics (CBGN) and Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (MCBS) Clusters of the Biomedical Sciences (BMSC) Program over a five-year period.
Directed by Drs. Xavier Graña and Kelly Whelan, the curriculum features an interdisciplinary approach to education and research training. Students learn how to perform as independent scientific investigators, exploring new pathways for learning and discovery. The programs challenge students to think logically and creatively and to express themselves independently.
The overall goal of this T32 Program is to offer exceptional interdisciplinary training in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Genetics, with a concentration in cell signaling, epigenetics, and genome maintenance.
There is a critical need for graduates with extensive training in these areas. They will lead development of novel approaches for improving health outcomes for diseases related to cancer and aging.
Fels Biomedical Seminars
Along with providing ongoing education and training for medical students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, Fels organizes seminars for the biomedical scientific community at large.
Cutting-edge topics are explained by keynote speakers and presenters, leading experts from industry, academia, and government from across the nation and around the world.
In-Depth PhD Training
The Fels Institute faculty are deeply involved in training PhD students from the Biomedical Sciences (BMSC) graduate program and the MD/PhD program at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.
The interdisciplinary BMSC program provides students with the education, training, and skills that today's employers in academia, government and industry demand.
Most Fels research faculty participate in the training of graduate students within the Cancer Biology and Genetics (CBGN) and/or the Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (MCBS) clusters for the BMSC graduate program. Several faculty also lead clusters and/or are directors and instructors in BMSC graduate program courses.
Annual Trainee Day
The Fels Institute’s Signaling, Epigenetics and Genome Maintenance Annual Trainee Day showcases the work of trainees from Fels, Fox Chase Cancer Center, and our T32 predoctoral program. In addition to featuring poster and oral presentations, the event provides career development activities and networking opportunities.
Extramural Research Seminar
Our Extramural Research Seminar program for trainees features talks by leading national and/or international scientists, followed by a luncheon that gives trainees and speakers the opportunity to interact. The goal is to foster new collaborations and networking opportunities.
