Overview
The mission of the Katz Biobank and Protocol Support Core is to promote and support clinical, translational, and basic research that involves human biospecimens. A range of services are provided, including support for biobanking, clinical research, and clinical trials.
Services
- The Core provides guidance on development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for blood, urine, and other biosamples, and facilitates interactions between basic and translational researchers and clinical staff. Additional consultation is available in regard to project design, feasibility, biosafety, technical considerations, sample processing protocols, and shipping.
- Based on approved IRB protocols, the core staff perform processing and short- or long-term storage of biospecimens. The biobank works with medical informatics staff to ensure appropriate clinical annotation of de-identified specimens
- The Core provides assistance in establishing an effective logistical flow for sample acquisition for clinical trials, and performs sample preparation as specified by SOPs. Specimen processing capacities include automated processing, DNA and RNA isolation, genotyping, and sequencing.
