Overview
The metabolome and lipidome in a given biological system provide a molecular snapshot of the rapid and complex metabolic perturbations associated with life. Their analysis may be crucial for the understanding of the mechanisms of health and disease. The use of mass spectrometry for metabolomics and lipidomics research has increased exponentially over the past two decades, providing a highly sensitive analytical tool for quantitative analysis of molecules in complex biological matrices. The Metabolomics and Lipidomics core facility provides expertise and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry instrumentation and analytical methods for such analyses.
Services
- Metabolomics: Both “untargeted” and library based polar metabolomics covering relative quantification of central carbon metabolism, amino acids, and other major metabolites. Standardized assay with limited flexibility in provided output.
- Lipidomics: Non-polar metabolite analysis providing relative quantification of major structural, intermediate, and signaling lipids. Standardized assay with limited flexibility in provided output.
- Method Development: Analytical method development and validation for targeted analysis requiring high and known degrees of analytical parameters including sensitivity and specificity. Allows less standard methods to be developed and tested.
