Research Interests

Dr. Rihab Bouchareb is an assistant professor in the Center of Metabolic Disease Research at Temple University. She is a cardiovascular and renal researcher whose work focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms driving heart valve disease and acute kidney injury (AKI). Her research explores how metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, and mitochondrial damage contribute to disease progression, with a strong emphasis on translational approaches. Dr. Bouchareb is pioneering innovative strategies such as mitochondrial transplantation to restore kidney function following injury. She has also made significant contributions to understanding the role of platelets in calcific aortic valve stenosis, identifying new pathways and potential therapeutic targets. Her interdisciplinary work bridges molecular biology, systems medicine, and clinical relevance, aiming to develop novel treatments for cardio-renal disease.
