Founded in 2021, the Center for Microbiology and Immunology (CMI) explores groundbreaking research to advance human health. Our interdisciplinary team collaborates to develop innovative techniques for understanding, diagnosing and treating infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders, and neurodegenerative conditions to improve patient care.
Our cutting-edge (transformative) work focuses on the complex interactions between the human immune system and microbes. We bring together scientists, physicians, and educators to drive breakthroughs in four major research areas:
- Microbiome research — Understanding microbial communities and their impact on health.
- Systems biology — Integrating data-driven approaches to decode immune responses such as inflammation.
- Imaging — Using advanced visualization techniques to study infections and immunity.
- Immunoprofiling — Characterizing immune signatures to guide precision medicine.
This research helps us tackle complex health challenges and develop new medical solutions.
Education and mentorship are central to our mission. We work closely with faculty across the Katz School of Medicine to train the next generation of researchers and healthcare professionals. We welcome students, faculty and industry partners to collaborate with us in transforming medicine through scientific discovery.
We invite you to explore our research, connect with our team, and join us in developing transformative medicine for a healthier future.
