During this rotation the resident assigned to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) evaluates all patients admitted to the PACU following anesthesia. The residents develop an understanding of the normal recovery patterns from various types of anesthesia.  The resident grows in their ability to recognize and treat post-anesthesia problems. Residents learn to evaluate patients' readiness for discharge from the PACU. Post-operative pain management is another facet of the PACU rotation featuring multimodal care targeted to individual patient needs.
