Temple University Hospital has been ranked the most racially inclusive hospital in Pennsylvania and the 13th most racially inclusive hospital in the United States by the Lown Institute, a nonpartisan health care think tank.
The Lown Institute Hospitals Index examines the racial inclusivity of 3,200+ U.S. hospitals to assess their success at serving the people of color living in their communities. To create the rankings, the Lown Institute assesses how well the demographics of a hospital’s Medicare patients match those of its surrounding communities. In the new rankings, the Lown Institute used 2018 data from Medicare claims f and the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.
Located in North Philadelphia, Temple University Hospital -- the main clinical training site of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine -- serves one of the nation’s most economically challenged and diverse urban populations.
