The application deadline is February 15. An application will be considered complete once the required application materials have been received and verified. Note that there is no deadline extension for incomplete applications.

All applicants to the MS program must apply through BioMedical’s Centralized Application Service (BioMedCAS). Applicants should check their application’s status on the BioMedCAS portal often and inquire directly to BioMedCAS about receipt of materials.

You also must submit a supplemental application to Temple University, which will generate your TUid number. The BioMedCAS application will not be considered without the assigned TUid.

Because BioMedCAS may take several weeks to process your submissions, we strongly recommend that all application and supplemental application materials are submitted early.

Eligibility

• Applicants should have at least a 3.0 GPA from their undergraduate studies to be considered for admission.
• Successful applicants have taken Biology, General and Organic Chemistry, and Physics, often along with at least one advanced science courses.
• A baccalaureate degree in the Biological or Chemical Sciences is required.
• All applicants must be either in their final year of an undergraduate curriculum or already recipients of a BA or BS degree.
• All international applicants who are approved to apply are required to fulfill the Temple University Graduate School requirements.

How to Apply

• Applications may only be submitted through the BioMedCAS centralized application service. All required materials are uploaded directly to your application in BioMedCAS — no materials should be submitted to the Biomedical Sciences program offices.

Required Materials

• Curriculum Vitae or Resume
  • All applicants must submit an up-to-date CV/resume. In addition to academic and research summaries, be sure to include publications, poster presentations, awards, and any professional honors you may have received.
• English Proficiency
  • All international students whose academic instruction was not exclusively English or who did not graduate from a U.S. or Canadian institution must submit valid (< 2 years old) scores from either a TOEFL,  IELTS or DuoLingo exam. The Graduate School at Temple University requires minimal scores of 79 for the TOEFL, 6.5 for the IELTS, 110 DuoLingo, or 53 PTE Academic for admission.
  • You may upload an unofficial IELTS exam report. If you do matriculate, you’ll be required to provide an official IELTS report.
• Letters of Recommendation
  • Three letters of recommendation are required. Each letter should be on institutional letterhead, signed, and dated. At least one should be from someone with direct knowledge of your research ability and preparation for graduate study.  At least one should be from an instructor who can comment on your academic readiness for graduate study. The letters are requested and uploaded through the BioMedCAS system.
• Standardized Test Scores
  • The GRE is optional. For applicants with a valid (<5 year old) score, an unofficial copy can be uploaded with your application.
• Transcripts
  • Students who attended institutions in the U.S. or Canada may upload an unofficial transcript for each institution. Official transcripts are only required after students have agreed to matriculate and prior to beginning the academic year.
  • Students who attended international institutions may submit unofficial transcripts with English translation. We prefer an official transcript with a U.S. GPA conversion from World Education Services (WES). An official WES-verified transcript is required for all matriculants prior to the start of the fall semester.
• Written Statements (Two)
  • In a Statement of Goals essay (about 1,000 words), tell us about yourself. Include your research experiences, interests, achievements, your future professional goals, and why you are applying to our program.
  • In a separate essay (about 1,000 words), describe an academic or laboratory challenge you have experienced, and be sure to answer these questions: What was the nature of the situation, how did you handle the issue, and what did you gain from the experience?

Admission and Interviews

• Successful MS applicants will be notified of decisions by email.
• Admission is on a rolling basis until the class has been filled.
