Conditions for Accepted Students

The following items are required for matriculation:

  • $500 non-refundable deposit submitted within two weeks of the admissions offer. 
  • Applicants who complete coursework or a degree after submitting a CASPA application must send official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended directly to the LKSOM PA Office of Admissions. These transcripts should indicate the final degree awarded and are required for matriculation.  
  • Coursework completed after the submission of a CASPA application must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale. 
  • Maintenance of good standing at educational institution. 
  • Required clearances: 
  1. Complete a Pennsylvania Child Abuse Check and resolution of any reports to the satisfaction of the School of Medicine. 
  2. Complete a Criminal Background Check and resolution of any reports to the satisfaction of the School of Medicine. 
  3. NOTE: Any academic infraction, license infraction, felony or misdemeanor after the date of the original CASPA application submission must be reported to the MMS program within 10 business days of the occurrence.  
  4. Within 10 business days of the occurrence, you are required to notify Dr. Jacob Ufberg, Associate Dean, Admissions, in writing by certified mail at the address on the acceptance letter.  Matriculation is contingent upon successful resolution to the satisfaction of the PA program and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. 
  • Student Health Forms, including vaccinations and titers. 
  • Attendance at Orientation Program. 
  • Ability to meet Technical Standards without or with reasonable accommodations. 

Conditions for Accepted Students

  • Advanced Placement: The Physician Assistant Program does not offer advanced placement based upon transfer of credits or experiential learning from another institution. 
  • Deferment: Accepted applicants may petition in writing for deferral of matriculation. To be considered for a deferment, you must submit, in writing, a formal request to the Admissions Committee and Program Director, on or before March 1 of the application year. The request for deferral should provide an appropriate degree of detail. Deferment decisions will be made on a case by case basis and the applicant will be notified within two weeks of the request. 
  • Deceleration: The Physician Assistant Program does not allow for deceleration. 
  • Employment During the PA Program: It is generally wiser for the physician assistant student to borrow or use other resources instead of depending upon employment during their participation in the Physician Assistant Program. This is especially true during the first year when the heavy study load and accelerated educational programs require a major adjustment for all new students. 
  • Students are required to consult the program director if considering employment. When circumstances arise that necessitate a student to work during the didactic or clinical year, students are strongly discouraged from working at sites where PA Program students are placed for rotations. In addition, students are strictly forbidden to use their affiliation with Temple University, the School of Medicine, or the PA Program in any aspect of their employment. Students must not substitute for or function as instructional faculty, clinical, or administrative staff during clinical clerkships. 
  • Health Insurance: Note that the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s policy requires all students to carry health insurance. The University offers several options for student health insurance. 
  • Disabilities/Medical Conditions: Temple University Office of Disability Resources and Services (DRS) facilitates accommodations and provides information on accessing University programs and facilities for students with a disability or medical condition. Services include academic adjustments and accommodations such as sign language interpreting and captioning, test taking accommodations, and note-taking support. Information on assistive technology, scholarships, and career development is also available.
