CILR is dedicated to educating the next generation of researchers in a dynamic and supportive environment, an approach that enhances the learning experience and drives scientific progress at the same time.

Our researchers and faculty mentor trainees from the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels. Investigators also mentor students working towards PhD, MD/PhD, MD, or MS degrees.

CILR faculty participate in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, which provides a broad-based curriculum and research opportunities in the lab, including work in state-of-the-art facilities. Emphasizing an interdisciplinary approach to biomedical science better equips students for success. Plus, research projects promote skill development while enhancing the research environment.

Interactions with CILR investigators boost students’ overall performance and productivity. And, connecting with peers, mentors, and researchers fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing.

In addition, many training sessions on various topics are offered at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, helping trainees acquire skills beyond their immediate research tasks. For example, the Department of Biomedical Education and Data Science offers numerous programs and learning methods to prepare students for impactful careers.

Investigators also mentor postdoctoral fellows in the areas of acute and chronic inflammatory conditions and lung diseases. Additionally, mentees are encouraged to collaborate across various scientific disciplines to explore new approaches.

Students and postdoctoral fellows engage in conferences, seminars, and meetings, which allow them to present their projects, discuss obtained results, and receive feedback. Collaborations between CILR investigators and clinicians at Temple University Hospital provide students with opportunities to work on translational research projects in the lab and participate in grand rounds, symposiums, and multidisciplinary conferences related to clinical settings.
