Fellow Ronald Andari, MD and Brenda Horwitz, MD

Welcome to the Temple University Hospital Section of Gastroenterology website. Thank you for your interest in our Fellowship Program!

The Temple University Gastroenterology Fellowship program utilizes the resources of the 721-bed Temple University Hospital and is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is part of the Temple University Health System. On the North Broad Street campus are Temple University Hospital, Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, research laboratory buildings, the Health Sciences Center library, College of Health Professions, two outpatient and office buildings that are attached to the hospital, and the School of Dentistry.

The Department of Medicine is composed of approximately 95 full time faculty, 65 subspecialty fellows and 75 house officers. The hospital (Rock Pavilion), a $180 million clinical teaching building, opened in 1986.

Opened in November 2005, the Digestive Disease Center is located in the Ambulatory Care Center on the Health Sciences Center. This facility houses a state-of-the-art endoscopy suite, prep and recovery areas, and the outpatient clinics for the Section of Gastroenterology. The endoscopy suite contains 5 individual endoscopy rooms, two of which are fitted with digital fluoroscopy. Additionally, there are two motility testing rooms and an area for breath tests. The endoscopy suite is conveniently located adjacent to Temple University Hospital, connecting through a corridor on the 2nd floor. Along with the endoscopy suite is the outpatient clinic space for the Section of Gastroenterology. Both are designed to incorporate the use of electronic medical records for patient encounters, as well as optimizing patient privacy, confidentiality, and education.

In addition to Temple University Hospital, clinical training also takes place at a campus in Northeast Philadelphia. Fellows rotate at Jeanes Hospital, a community hospital that serves a local population and at Fox Chase Cancer Center, a facility with a national reputation dedicated solely to the diagnosis, management and prevention of cancer.

These sites offer a unique and different educational experience that ensures the broadest possible clinical gastroenterology consultative and endoscopic training.
