A Message from Hong Wang, MD, PhD, EMBA,
Laura H. Carnell Professor, Pharmacology
Director, Center for Metabolic Disease Research
The Center for Metabolic Disease Research (CMDR) is designed to conduct basic science and clinical relevant research to discover new knowledge about metabolic disease. The CMDR will support and promote multidisciplinary research to study mechanisms underlying metabolic diseases, including hyperhomocysteinemia, hyperlipidemia, hyperinsulinemia, diabetes, obesity, vascular inflammation, hypertension, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Faculty members in CMDR come from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University with the common bond being overlapping interests in metabolic disease research. All CMDR faculty members have academic appointments within a basic science or clinical department. Any interested faculty member can join the CMDR. We invite adjunct professors, who are our close collaborators in research, from other University or Institution to join our faculty team.
The CMDR has extensive research and education programs, and will facilitate collaboration and promote excellence in research, education, and service.
Research programs in CMDR including the following:
- Omics research of CVD and CKD
- Vascular cell biological research
- Vascular pathology, physiology and mechanism
- T cell and monocytes differentiation and inflammation
- Lipid and HDL metabolism
- Stem cell and gene-based tissue repair
- Novel drug discovery
- Bioinformatics and database mining
Education programs in CMDR including the following:
- Postdoctoral Program
- Graduate Program
- Undergraduate Research Program
- Research Seminar
- Journal Club
- Annual Research symposium
Sincerely,
Hong Wang, MD, PhD, EMBA
