MD Elective

Fourth-year Temple medical students may elect Nephrology which provides:

  • Emphasis on renal, electrolyte and acid-base diagnosis, principles of therapy, pathophysiology, pathology and normal physiology
  • Participation in the renal consultation team under the supervision of the renal attending physician and the renal fellow, including initial history and physical exams and development of appropriate differential diagnoses
  • Active participation in all of the renal teaching conferences including renal grand rounds, journal clubs, and research conferences
  • Provision of appropriate bibliographic references to relevant books and articles followed by critical discussions with faculty

Residency Elective

First, second and third year residents in the Temple Internal Medicine program may elect Nephrology which provides:

  • Emphasis on renal, electrolyte and acid-base diagnosis, principles of therapy, pathophysiology, pathology and normal physiology appropriate to their level of training and background, including drug and dietary therapy and renal replacement therapy
  • Participation in the renal consultation team under the supervision of the renal attending physician and renal fellow, including initial history and physical exams and development of appropriate differential diagnoses. Senior residents will gain experience and knowledge on how to be an effective consultant in their interactions with the house staff on the consulting medical and surgical services
  • Active participation in all of the renal teaching conferences including renal grand rounds, journal clubs, and research conferences
  • Provision of appropriate bibliographic references to relevant books and articles appropriate to their level of training, followed by critical discussions with faculty
