Basic Science Research

The Section’s laboratory effort is focused on systemic autoimmunity. State-of-the-art laboratories are located in the new Medical Education and Research Building. Section faculty and staff work side by side with scientists from related disciplines in the Temple Autoimmunity Center, a collaborative group of translational researchers sharing an interest in autoimmunity.

Clinical Research

Section faculty conduct patient oriented research in the Lupus Clinic, which is part of a national network of collaborative clinics. Active areas under investigation include regulation of the interferon pathway in lupus patients and studies of renal disease pathogenesis. The role of gender in lupus pathogenesis is another area of investigation.
