The Department of Family & Community Medicine enjoys close working relationships with several internal Temple entities, including the TRUST Clinic and the Center for Urban Bioethics.
The Temple Recovery Using Scientific Treatments Clinic (TRUST) serves as a hub of care delivery for patients struggling with opioid use disorder, as well as support for a network of local primary care physicians who are also providing such care.
The Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Center for Urban Bioethics is committed to defining and addressing the ethical challenges of urban health care, public health status, and policy. The Center’s interdisciplinary membership includes community residents, faculty, students, and staff all working to improve health status for vulnerable urban populations and to position Temple as a nationally recognized expert in the field of urban health and bioethics. Through the Center for Urban Bioethics residents will have the opportunity to attain a Masters degree during training via the Master degree program in bioethics (MAUB).

Our Community: North Philadelphia
Temple’s Family Medicine Residency is located in the heart of the very prideful and vibrant community of North Philadelphia. Affectionately known as North Philly, the surrounding neighborhoods are home to primarily African American and Latinx residents. Although once a very prominent site for manufacturing during the industrial era, North Philadelphia underwent an economic decline during the mid-20th century, of which the effects are still being felt today.
Many of the current residents of surrounding neighborhoods that were historically redlined are living below the poverty level. As such, this population is in critical need of good medical care. As part of its mission of training future leaders in Family Medicine, Temple’s Family Medicine Residency Program seeks to provide equitable, accessible, and high-quality care to the residents of the surrounding area who are in the most need.
