A Message from the Chief Residents
Welcome to the Temple University Psychiatry Residency Program! Thank you so much for stopping by - we are excited that you are interested in learning more about us and our residency training. We are very proud of our program’s long history of strong clinical education and residents who emerge as confident, talented, compassionate psychiatrists who are well-prepared to embark on the next stage of their careers.
Our hospital provides care to a large volume of patients with a wide range of pathologies. The majority of our training is based out of Temple Episcopal Hospital, which has acute inpatient psychiatry units, an extended acute unit, and a vibrant crisis psychiatry service. Our Consult-Liaison service is based out of Temple University Hospital, which is a large urban university hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Center and Burn Unit. Our graduates say that it is rare for them to encounter a case after graduation that they did not feel prepared for.
At Temple, you will find a close-knit group of colleagues and mentors who will guide you through the next four years. We take self-care seriously, and have a resident-run wellness initiative which has effected both curricular and structural changes for the program in the past few years. We can confidently say that our residents consider each other to be friends and family, and many of us form friendships here that last a lifetime.
Following residency, our residents who choose to pursue a fellowship have their top choices in a wide variety of subspecialties, including Child and Adolescent, Addictions, Forensics, Geriatrics, and Consult-Liaison Psychiatry. When our graduates return to visit, they unanimously say that the knowledge and skill they gained during residency far exceeded their expectations when put to the test in practice after training.
