The primary training clinical programs for residents and medical students are as follows:
Inpatient
Episcopal Hospital has four acute inpatient psychiatry units and one extended acute unit. We accept all patients needing inpatient care who are over the age of 18 (including pregnant patients and patients over the age of 65) regardless of insurance status. The average length of stay on our acute units is seven to ten days and on our extended acute unit is nine months. We see patients with a wide range of psychiatric illnesses. Our units are not divided by patient population but provide care for patients with comorbid substance use, intellectual disability, and/or severe medical illness.
Crisis Response Center
24-hour psychiatric emergency service where individuals experiencing behavioral health crises receive evaluation, treatment and referral for additional care. A skilled team of psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, psychiatric nurses, crisis response technicians and clinical social workers treats more than 10,000 patients each year for episodes of psychosis, intoxication, substance withdrawal, and threatened or attempted suicide, among other conditions.
