Student Site Assignment Policies
Phase 2 and 3
Students select and rank their preferred schedule and site assignments for Phase 2 and Phase 3 courses. Schedules are created based on students’ preferences using a lottery process. During a designated period before schedules are finalized, students can switch site assignments by making a “swap” with their peers.
In advance of the lottery, a student can request a site assignment outside of the lottery process when specific criteria exist. Students must make this request in writing to the Associate Dean of Student Support who in collaboration with other members of the leadership team in the Office of Student Support evaluate and make the decision to approve the request. Criteria used to evaluate a request include but are not limited to a student being the primary caretaker for a family member or having a personal health issue that requires ongoing care from a provider in a specific geographic area.
Requests for an alternative site assignment for a required Phase 2 or 3 course after schedules are finalized must be made in writing to the Associate Dean of Student Support. The Associate Dean of Student Support in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education evaluate and make the decision to approve a request.
