Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
I am pleased to announce that Nina O'Connor, MD, FAAHPM, has been appointed the new Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Primary Care Service Line Director, effective December 1, 2023.
Dr. O'Connor brings an exceptional combination of expertise, leadership, and dedication to her new role. As the Temple University Health System Chief Medical Officer, Population Health, since 2022, she has played a crucial role in developing and implementing clinical strategies to support population health and ambulatory quality at Temple Health. She has collaborated closely with physicians and leaders at Temple Faculty Practice Plan and Temple Physicians Inc. to drive successful practice transformation. Dr. O'Connor has also overseen nurse navigation and community outreach programs and has served as the health system's point person for social determinants of health.
In her new position as the Department of Family and Community Medicine Chair, Dr. O'Connor will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer, championing faculty development and mentoring initiatives, ensuring a supportive work environment that encourages personal and professional growth. She will be responsible for interpreting university policies to the faculty and non-faculty physicians of the department, ensuring their effective execution, and representing the individual and group concerns of department members to the university and health system administration.
As Dr. O’Connor transitions into this role, I would like to thank Menachem Leasy, MD, for serving as the Interim Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Primary Care. Dr. Leasy will now serve as Vice Chair of the department.
We congratulate Dr. O'Connor on her new role leading the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine.
Sincerely,
