Although Homecoming Week 2020 looks very different than years past, the Lewis Katz School of Medicine Alumni Office is carrying the celebration on with the launch of a new program designed to bring Alumni and students together.
The Alumni-Student Connections program offers Alumni a series of options to engage with current students in ways that will be meaningful and impactful to them. Developed in partnership with the Office of Student Affairs, the program aligns Alumni engagement with our students’ medical years – from building a foundation of support in year one, to providing a platform for in-depth discussions and mentoring opportunities in year four.
Feedback from alumni was also paramount in designing the program.
"In the early planning stages, we referenced alumni survey results that supported strong interest and willingness to connect with students. Reaffirming a hallmark of this community, alumni were eager to share their experiences and provide students with valuable insight." said Anne Carlin, Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement.
"In this virtual world, it is critical to pivot and provide resources for our students that are accessible and customized to meet their needs. Through this program, we’re encouraging both alumni and students to use their time in a mutually rewarding way."
The personalized, multi-faceted approach geared towards students’ year levels also offers a range of activities with varying time commitments, allowing for increased alumni participation.
How to Get Involved
Year One: Post a message of support to our Kudoboard for first year students as they begin their careers in medicine.
Years Two and Three: Host a casual video chat with an intimate group of students, based on topics relevant your shared experiences.
Year Four: Offer in-depth insight into residency interviews and perspective on the match process.
